How it works
- Give it the dictionary, or JSON text, and the key to look up.
- It returns the value and whether it was found.
- A missing key doesn't fail the step; found is simply false so you can decide what to do.
Routines that use it
Per-app volume
Keep a dictionary of app names and levels with Remember, then get the current app's level and apply it with App volume.
Read a reply field
After HTTP request, get the status field and branch on it with Compare values.
Fallback value
Get a folder from your settings dictionary and use a default when it isn't found.
Settings
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Dictionary | The dictionary. |
| Key | The name of the entry. |
Good to know
- It reads one key at the top level; for deeper paths in JSON, Read JSON value is the better fit.
Questions
- What if the key doesn't exist?
- The step still succeeds and its found result is false, so you can check it and use a default.
- Can I use JSON text directly?
- Yes. Paste or pass JSON text and the step reads it as a dictionary.
