Run a routine when a window is minimized on Windows 11

Window minimized starts a routine when a window that matches your description is minimized. It's a light way to say "I'm done with this for now" and let the PC react.

How it works

  • Describe the window by its app, program, title or class.
  • It fires each time a matching top-level window is minimized.
  • KeyRoutines listens for Windows' own minimize events, so nothing is checked on a timer.
  • The routine receives the window, its title and its program.

Routines that use it

Pause when hidden

When your video player is minimized, Media control pauses playback.

Quiet a minimized app

When your game launcher is minimized, Mute an app silences its trailers and music.

Focus nudge

When you minimize your writing app during working hours, checked with Time and day, Show banner asks whether you meant to take a break.

Questions

Can I pause a video automatically when I minimize the window?
Yes. Use Window minimized for the player's window and add Media control set to pause.
Does it fire when I use Show desktop?
It fires when a matching window is minimized, so it may fire if Show desktop minimizes that window.
