How to change one app's volume with a hotkey on Windows
Use two KeyRoutines Hotkey triggers in one routine and an App volume step that raises or lowers a single app, such as Spotify, by a set amount. Started by trigger tells the routine which key you pressed, so one routine handles both up and down while everything else stays at its level.
Steps
- 1
Add two hotkeys
Add two Hotkey triggers, for example Ctrl+Alt+Up and Ctrl+Alt+Down.
- 2
Branch on the key
Add an If with the Started by trigger condition set to the Up hotkey.
- 3
Raise or lower the app
In the If branch, add App volume for the app with the change set to raise by 0.1. In the Else branch, add App volume set to lower by 0.1.
- 4
Mute it outright if you like
Add a third hotkey and a Mute an app step for the same app to silence it with one press.
Tips
- App volume sets the app's level in the Windows volume mixer, so it stays put until you or the app change it.
- The app must be playing or have played sound since it started, because Windows only lists apps with an audio session.
Questions
- Can I set an exact level instead of steps?
- Yes. Set App volume's change to set a level, for example 0.4 for 40 %.
- Does it work for games?
- It changes the game's slider in the Windows volume mixer, which is a Windows setting. Nothing is sent to the game itself.
