Press any OBS hotkey by name from a KeyRoutines routine

OBS: press an OBS hotkey runs one of OBS's built-in hotkey actions directly, without needing a key bound inside OBS. Use it for OBS features KeyRoutines has no dedicated step for. This step needs KeyRoutines Pro.

KeyRoutines Pro is a one-time $29.99 upgrade for up to 2 PCs.

How it works

  • Type OBS's internal name for the hotkey, such as OBSBasic.Screenshot.
  • A name OBS doesn't know fails with a list of similar names.
  • It presses once and doesn't retry or wait for OBS, because pressing twice isn't the same as pressing once.
  • Start Streaming is refused here on purpose; going live is left to the record / stream step.

Routines that use it

Screenshot of the stream

A hotkey presses OBSBasic.Screenshot, then Show banner confirms it.

Mark a moment

When a replay is saved, also take an OBS screenshot to use as a thumbnail.

Fill a gap

Press an OBS hotkey action for a feature that isn't covered by the other OBS steps.

Settings

SettingWhat it does
HotkeyOBS's name for the hotkey, such as OBSBasic.Screenshot or OBSBasic.StartRecording.

Good to know

  • Needs KeyRoutines Pro.
  • Start Streaming can't be pressed with this step.
  • Uses OBS's internal hotkey names, not the labels in OBS's settings.

Questions

Where do I find OBS hotkey names?
They're OBS's internal names, such as OBSBasic.Screenshot or OBSBasic.StartRecording. If you type one OBS doesn't know, the step lists similar names it does have.
Why can't it start streaming?
Going live is deliberately kept to the OBS: record / stream / replay step, which has extra safety checks. This step refuses Start Streaming.
