How it works
- Pick the routine and fill in any inputs it asks for.
- With Wait on (the default) the step waits, fails if the other routine fails, and returns its outputs; with Wait off it only starts it.
- Cancelling this step cancels the routine it started, and a dry run starts the other routine as a dry run too.
- Routines can call each other up to 8 levels deep, and waiting for a routine that's already further up the same chain is refused.
Routines that use it
Shared setup
Several hotkey routines run one Audio setup routine that sets the default audio device and volume.
Ask, then act
Ask for input, then run a helper routine with the answer as its input and read its outputs.
Fire and forget
Start a slow backup routine without waiting, then lock the PC straight away.
Settings
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Routine | The routine to run (rt_…). |
| Inputs | Values for the routine's inputs. |
| Wait | Wait until it finishes (and fail if it fails), or only start it. |
Good to know
- At most 8 levels of routines calling routines.
- By default the step gives up after 30 minutes of waiting.
Questions
- Can a KeyRoutines routine call another routine?
- Yes, with Run routine. It can wait for the result or just start it.
- What happens if the routine I run fails?
- When the step waits, it fails too and passes on the reason. With Wait off, the step only reports that it was started.
