Add days, hours or months to a date in a Windows routine

Add to date moves a date forward by an amount you choose, from seconds up to years. Leave the date empty and it starts from right now, which makes "one week from today" a single step.

How it works

  • Set the starting date (empty means now), the amount and the unit: seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, months or years.
  • Days and weeks are counted in this PC's time zone, so adding a day keeps the same clock time.
  • Months and years need whole numbers, and a month end stays on the last day of the month when the next month is shorter.
  • A date typed without a time zone is read as a time on this computer's clock.

Routines that use it

Due date in a note

Add 14 days to now, write it nicely with Format date, and put it on the clipboard with Set clipboard.

Reminder for later

Add 2 hours and save the result with Remember, so a scheduled routine can compare it and show a banner when it's time.

Next month's folder

Add 1 month, format it as yyyy-MM, and make the folder with Create folder.

Good to know

  • Months and years only take whole numbers.

Questions

How do I get the date one week from today?
Use Add to date with the date empty, amount 1 and unit weeks. The result is exactly seven days from now, at the same local time.
What happens when I add a month to January 31?
The result stays on the last day of the next month instead of spilling into the month after.
