StepFreefolder.create

Create folders automatically, like one per month

Create folder makes a folder, including any folders above it that don't exist yet. It is often the first step before moving or saving files into a dated location.

How it works

  • Type the folder path; it can include values such as the current year and month.
  • Every missing folder along the path is created.
  • If the folder already exists, the step still succeeds and its output says nothing new was created.
  • A new folder is recorded, and Undo file moves removes it as long as it's still empty.

Routines that use it

Monthly archive

Create D:\Archive with the current year and month in the name, then Move or copy file puts today's files in it.

New project skeleton

Ask for input asks for a project name, then several Create folder steps build its subfolders.

Recording sessions

When the OBS recording stops, create a folder for the date and move the new recording into it.

Questions

Does it fail if the folder already exists?
No. An existing folder counts as success, and the step's output tells you it was already there.
Can a routine make a folder named after today's date?
Yes. Put a date value in the path, formatted the way you like, such as year and month.
