How to create the same folder structure for each new project

Use a KeyRoutines routine with Ask for input for the project name, Create folder for each subfolder (parents are created too), Write text file for a starter notes file, and Open file or folder to show the new project in Explorer.

Steps

  1. 1

    Start it

Add a Hotkey trigger or Run manually.

  2. 2

    Ask for the name

Add Ask for input, "Project name".

  3. 3

    Make the folders

Add Create folder for Projects\name\Briefs, Projects\name\Assets and Projects\name\Exports.

  4. 4

    Add a notes file

Add Write text file for Projects\name\Notes.txt, set to write only when it doesn't exist yet.

  5. 5

    Open it

Add Open file or folder with the project folder.

Tips

  • Use Replace text or Change case on the name first if you want consistent folder names.

Questions

Will it overwrite an existing project?
Create folder leaves existing folders alone, and Write text file set to only-if-missing won't replace your notes.
Can it copy template files in?
Yes. Add Move or copy file in copy mode from a template folder.
