How to delete files older than 30 days automatically
Use KeyRoutines' At a time trigger with a Delete to Recycle Bin step. Set the folder, a pattern such as *.png, and Older than to 30 days, and only those files go to the Recycle Bin.
Steps
- 1
Pick when
Add At a time, for example 12:00 every Sunday, and set missed runs to run once so it catches up if the PC was off.
- 2
Clean the folder
Add Delete to Recycle Bin with the folder, a pattern like *.png;*.mp4 and Older than set to 30 days.
- 3
Tell yourself
Add Show banner to confirm the clean-up ran, if you want to know.
Tips
- Deleting for good is a separate advanced switch that asks you once before it ever runs; the Recycle Bin is the default.
- The Recycle Bin only exists on fixed local drives; on network and removable drives the step refuses rather than deleting for good.
Questions
- Is this the same as Storage Sense?
- Storage Sense can clean Downloads and the Recycle Bin. This routine cleans any folder you pick, with your own name pattern and age.
- Can it clean several folders?
- Yes. Add a Delete to Recycle Bin step per folder.
