How it works
- Pick one monitor, or leave it empty to change every monitor that lets apps set its brightness.
- Built-in laptop screens are set through Windows; external monitors are set over DDC/CI, the monitor's own control channel.
- With every monitor chosen, a monitor that doesn't respond is skipped and named in the log, and the others still change.
- The step outputs the previous level, so a mode or a later step can put it back.
Routines that use it
Night dimming
At a time at 22:00 sets every monitor to 30, and a morning routine sets them back to 70.
Battery saver
When Plugged in or unplugged reports the laptop is on battery, lower the built-in screen's brightness.
Movie mode
A Hotkey routine dims the side monitor to 0 with Set brightness and switches the main one to dark mode.
Settings
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Monitor | Which monitor. Empty: every monitor that lets apps set its brightness. |
| Level | Brightness, from 0 to 100. |
Good to know
- External monitors must support DDC/CI and have it turned on in the monitor's own menu.
- A specific monitor that doesn't respond makes the step fail, while 'every monitor' just skips it.
Questions
- Can I change external monitor brightness from Windows?
- Yes, if the monitor supports DDC/CI. Turn it on in the monitor's on-screen menu, then Set brightness can change it like a laptop screen.
- How do I dim all my screens at once?
- Leave the monitor setting empty. The step changes every screen that accepts brightness commands and tells you which ones it skipped.
