Get the current song title and artist on Windows 11

Get now playing reads what a player is playing right now: the title, the artist and the app. Use it to show the current song, log what you listened to, or decide what a routine should do next.

How it works

  • Name a player or leave it empty for whatever Windows shows as playing.
  • The outputs hold the title, the artist, the app and whether it is playing.
  • Nothing playing isn't an error: the step succeeds with empty outputs and says so.
  • It only reads, so it runs exactly the same in a dry run.

Questions

Can I show the song that's playing in a notification?
Yes. Run Get now playing, then Show banner with its title and artist outputs. Bind it to a Hotkey to check any time.
What happens if nothing is playing?
The step still succeeds with empty outputs and a note saying nothing is playing. You can branch on its playing output or use Media is playing.
