How it works
- Choose the service, paste the webhook address and write the message, which can include values from the routine.
- Keep the secret part of the address in the vault: write {key} where it goes and pick the secret, so it isn't saved in the routine.
- Discord messages are sent without @everyone or role pings.
- Any answer other than success fails the step, so you know the message didn't arrive.
- You get a warning if the address doesn't belong to the service you picked.
Routines that use it
Tell your squad you're on
When Game started fires, send 'Online, hop in' to your group's Discord channel webhook.
Home Assistant scene
When PC locked fires, trigger a Home Assistant webhook automation that turns off the office lights.
Job done ping
After Run PowerShell finishes a long backup, send a Slack message with the result.
Settings
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Service | Where it goes. Each one gets the message in the shape it expects. |
| Url | The webhook address. Write {key} where the secret part goes and pick the secret under Key, so it's kept in the vault. |
| Message | The text to send. |
| Key | The secret part of the address (it replaces {key}). |
| Usernameadvanced | The name the message shows under. Empty: the webhook's own name. |
| Fieldsadvanced | More fields to send. Home Assistant gets them next to message; IFTTT reads value2 and value3; Custom sends them as JSON. |
Good to know
- Discord messages can be up to 2,000 characters.
Questions
- How do I send a message to a Discord channel automatically?
- Create a webhook in the Discord channel's settings, then use Send webhook with Discord selected and that address. Store the secret part in the vault so the routine doesn't hold it.
- Can it start a Home Assistant automation?
- Yes. Choose Home Assistant and use the webhook address of an automation with a webhook trigger. The message and any extra fields are sent along with it.
