How it works
- Pick the source, then set it to a level or raise or lower it by some decibels.
- 0 dB is full volume, about -6 dB is half as loud, and -100 dB is silent; values are kept within OBS's range of -100 to +26 dB.
- It reports the new level and the previous one, so a later step can put it back.
- Only OBS's mixer changes, not Windows' volume.
Routines that use it
Duck music while you talk
A hotkey lowers your music source by 10 dB, and a second press raises it back.
Quieter game audio on camera
When OBS switches to your Camera scene, set game audio to -20 dB so your voice stands out.
Reset levels before going live
Before starting the stream, set mic and desktop audio to your usual levels.

- Volume is limited to OBS's range of -100 to +26 dB.
Questions
- What does -6 dB mean in OBS?
- It's roughly half as loud as 0 dB, which is full volume. The step uses the same decibel numbers OBS's mixer shows.
- Does this change my Windows volume?
- No, only the source's level inside OBS. Use Set volume or App volume for Windows.
