How it works
- Choose the source: a layout remembered earlier in this run, such as from Remember layout or Show desktop, or a layout from your library by name.
- Windows that closed since are skipped, or found again by their app and title if you turn on "find reopened windows".
- For library layouts, missing windows follow the same choices as Apply layout: skip, open the app, wait, or fail.
- Nothing is brought to the front, and before it changes anything it remembers the current positions so a later step can undo the restore.
Routines that use it
Undo Show desktop
A hotkey runs Show desktop for a clean screen; pressing it again runs Restore layout with Show desktop's layout.
Back after gaming
When App quit sees the game close, Restore layout brings back the work windows you remembered before launching it.
Library layout on dock
When Display changed reports your monitor connecting, Restore layout applies "Desk" from your Layouts library.
Settings
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| From | A layout remembered earlier in the run, or one from your Layouts library. |
| Layout | The remembered layout, for example the Remember layout step's layout. |
| Name | The layout's name in your Layouts library. |

Good to know
- A protected game's windows are never moved.
- If any window fails, the others are still restored and the step reports the failure at the end.
Questions
- How do I put my windows back after rearranging them?
- Use Remember layout before the change and Restore layout after it. If you want a fixed workspace instead, save it in the Layouts library and restore it by name.
- What happens to windows I closed in the meantime?
- They're skipped by default. Turn on "find reopened windows" to match windows you opened again by their app and title.
