How it works
- By default it remembers every visible window; you can limit it to chosen apps or to one monitor.
- For each window it saves the monitor, position, size, state and whether it stays on top.
- Minimized windows are left out unless you turn them on, and then they stay minimized when restored.
- It only reads, so nothing moves. KeyRoutines' own windows, protected games and apps running as administrator are left out, since they couldn't be restored.
Routines that use it
Screen share and back
Remember layout, Apply layout "Presenting" for the call, then Ask Yes or No when you're done and Restore layout puts everything back.
Gaming break
Before Open app starts the game, Remember layout saves your work windows; after Wait until the game isn't running, Restore layout brings them back.
Clean one monitor
Remember only the windows on your side monitor, minimize them with Window state, and restore them with one hotkey later.
Settings
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Apps | Only these apps' windows (every window when empty). |
| Monitoradvanced | Only windows on this monitor. |
| Include minimizedadvanced | Also remember minimized windows (they stay minimized when restored). |
Good to know
- The snapshot lives in the run; to keep a layout for other routines, save it in the Layouts library.
Questions
- Can Windows remember my window positions?
- Windows doesn't offer this on its own. Remember layout saves the positions during a routine, and Restore layout puts them back.
- Are minimized windows included?
- Only if you turn on "include minimized". They are then restored as minimized.
