How to keep your PC awake while a specific app is running

Make a KeyRoutines routine with an App launched trigger and a Keep awake step set to keep the PC awake while that app runs. When the app closes, Windows can sleep again as usual.

Steps

  1. 1

    Watch the app

Add App launched for the app, such as your video editor or Steam.

  2. 2

    Keep the PC awake

Add Keep awake with the mode set to while an app runs, and pick the same app.

  3. 3

    Screen on or off

Turn on Keep the screen on too if you need to see it; otherwise only the PC stays awake.

Tips

  • Keep awake can also run for a set time (up to 24 hours) from a hotkey, like PowerToys Awake.

Questions

Does it change my power settings?
No. It asks Windows to stay awake for now; your sleep settings are unchanged.
What if I close the app?
Keep awake stops when the app closes and Windows' normal sleep timer takes over.
