How it works
- Pick the app or game to watch.
- It fires once when the first process of that app appears, not again for every helper process the app spawns.
- Watching costs almost nothing: KeyRoutines compares the process list about once a second only while a trigger like this is armed.
- The routine receives the app and its process, ready for steps like Move and resize or Wait until.
Routines that use it
Performance mode for games
When your game starts, Set power plan switches to High performance and Keep awake holds the PC on while the game runs.
Place the window every time
When your notes app opens, Wait until App is ready, then Move and resize snaps it to the right half of your second monitor.
Mute chat during calls
When your meeting app launches, Mute an app silences your music player for the duration.

Good to know
- Web links can't be watched; pick an installed app or game instead.
Questions
- How do I run something automatically when a program opens on Windows 11?
- Create a routine with the App launched trigger and add the steps you want. It runs each time the app starts, however you open it.
- Why doesn't it fire several times for apps like Chrome or Discord?
- It treats an app as one thing and fires when its first process appears. The helper processes those apps start don't count as new launches.
