How it works
- Type the plan's name as Windows shows it, or its id; custom plans work too.
- Names are matched exactly first, then against the English names of the built-in plans, so a routine shared from a PC in another language still finds "Balanced", then by part of a name.
- If the plan is already active nothing is changed; if no plan matches, the step lists the plans this PC has.
- The previous plan is reported, so a later step can put it back.
Routines that use it
Gaming mode
When your game launches, Set power plan to High performance; when App quit fires, back to Balanced.
Battery saver on unplug
When Plugged in or unplugged reports unplugged, switch to Power saver; when plugged in, back to Balanced.
Render at full speed
A manual routine sets Ultimate performance, opens your video editor and keeps the PC awake while it runs.
Settings
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Plan | The power plan, by name as Windows shows it (Balanced, High performance, Power saver, Ultimate performance) or by id. |
Good to know
- It can only switch to plans that exist on this PC; if the plan isn't found, the step lists the plans it did find.
Questions
- How do I switch power plans automatically on Windows?
- Create a routine with a trigger such as App launched or Plugged in or unplugged and a Set power plan step. It changes the plan each time the trigger fires.
- Will a shared routine work on a PC in another language?
- Yes for the built-in plans. They're also matched by their English names, so "High performance" is found on a German PC too.
