How it works
- Pick the window and a placement: the monitor and the area of its screen, measured as a share of the screen by default so it survives resolution changes; it can also be maximized, minimized or kept on top.
- Without an area, the window keeps its relative place on the new monitor.
- It never brings the window to the front, handles invisible borders and monitors with different scaling, and checks the result, placing once more if the app moves itself back.
- Apps that restore their own position right after opening are given a moment to settle before they are placed.
- The step reports the window's final position and monitor.
Routines that use it
Snap on launch
After Open app starts your notes app, Move and resize puts it on the right half of your second monitor.
Video always on top
When a Picture-in-Picture window opens, Move and resize keeps it on top in a corner of the side monitor.
Rescue a lost window
A hotkey moves the window in front back onto your main monitor when it opened off-screen.
Settings
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Window | The window to move. |
| Placement | Where to put it: a monitor and a part of its screen. |
| Wait foradvanced | Wait this long for the window to appear (for an app that is still starting). |
Good to know
- A protected game's windows are never moved, and a full-screen app in front isn't moved either.
- The step fails if the monitor isn't connected or the app keeps moving itself back.
Questions
- How do I move a window to another monitor automatically?
- Add a Move and resize step and choose the monitor and area. Pair it with Window opened or Open app so it happens every time the window appears.
- Why do windows end up the wrong size on monitors with different scaling?
- Moving between monitors with different scaling makes many apps resize. Move and resize first moves the window over, waits for the scaling change, then sets the final size.
