How to make an app always open on a specific monitor

Use KeyRoutines' Window opened trigger for the app, then a Move and resize step that puts it on the monitor and part of the screen you want. Every time the app opens a window, it lands in the same place, whatever Windows decided.

Steps

  1. 1

    Watch for the window

Add the Window opened trigger and pick the app, for example Discord or Slack. You can also match a window title.

  2. 2

    Move it

Add Move and resize for the window that opened, choose the monitor, and draw the part of the screen it should fill.

  3. 3

    Maximize if you like

Set the placement's state to maximized if the app should fill that monitor.

Tips

  • Match by window title when an app opens several kinds of windows and only one of them should move.
  • If the monitor isn't connected, the placement falls back to the role you chose, such as the main monitor.

Questions

Will it fight me if I move the window myself?
No. It only moves the window when it opens. Moving it afterwards is up to you.
Can it do this for several apps?
Yes. Add a Window opened trigger and Move and resize step per app, or one routine per app.
