How to close a recurring popup window automatically

Make a KeyRoutines routine with the Window opened trigger matching the popup's app and title, a short Delay, and a Window state step set to close. The window is asked to close the normal way, as if you clicked its X.

Steps

  1. 1

    Identify the popup

Add the Window opened trigger, pick the app and add a title test, such as the title contains "Update available".

  2. 2

    Let it finish opening

Add a Delay of half a second so the window is fully drawn.

  3. 3

    Close it

Add Window state set to close for the window that opened.

Tips

  • Close asks the window to close the same way its X button does, so an app with unsaved work still asks its own question.
  • Match the title carefully: a loose match could close a window you wanted.

Questions

Can it click a button in the popup, like "Remind me later"?
Pro users can use Click in app to click a point in the window. Closing it is usually simpler and works in the free version.
Does it work with any app?
It works with normal desktop windows. Windows' own system dialogs and protected games are left alone.
