How it works
- Choose the target: the master output, the microphone, an app, or one named device.
- Pick mute, unmute, or leave it empty to switch to the opposite of the current state.
- The master output is your default playback device and the microphone is your default recording device.
- The step reports whether the target is muted afterwards, so you can show a banner or branch on it.
Routines that use it
System-wide mic mute key
Bind a Hotkey to Mute or unmute on the microphone set to switch, then Show banner to say whether you are now muted.
Mute when you walk away
When PC locked fires, mute the master output so notifications don't play to an empty room.
Unmute for a scheduled call
At a time at 09:55 on weekdays, unmute the microphone ahead of your morning stand-up.
Settings
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Target | Whose sound: the master output, the microphone, an app or one device. |
| Mute | Mute, unmute, or switch between the two. |
Good to know
- It needs a default playback or recording device; with none set, the step fails and says which is missing.
Questions
- How do I make a mute button for my microphone on Windows 11?
- Create a routine with a Hotkey trigger and a Mute or unmute step on the microphone with the mute setting left empty. Each press toggles the default mic, whatever app is using it.
- Does it mute the mic in every app?
- It mutes the default recording device itself, so apps using that device hear silence. An app that uses a different microphone needs that device picked as the target.
