How it works
- Choose mute, unmute, or switch.
- Before changing anything it reads Discord's current mute state, so 'mute' while already muted does nothing and reports success.
- The outputs tell you whether you are muted afterwards, which is useful for a banner or a light.
- It works through the Discord desktop app on this PC, not by pressing keys, so the window in front doesn't matter.
Routines that use it
Mute while typing in chat
A Hotkey toggles Discord mute and Show banner says 'Muted' or 'Live'.
Mute when a meeting app grabs the mic
When Mic or camera in use reports another app using the microphone, mute Discord so you aren't heard twice.
Unmute when joining
Right after Discord: join voice channel, unmute so your team hears you straight away.

Good to know
- The Discord desktop app must be running and connected once in KeyRoutines' Discord settings, using a Discord application you create.
Questions
- How do I mute Discord with a hotkey while in a game?
- Use a Hotkey routine with Discord: mute set to switch. It talks to Discord directly instead of sending keys, so it works while your game is in front.
- Can I mute Discord for free?
- Yes: set a mute keybind in Discord and send it with the free Press keys step. The Pro step adds a true on/off that reads Discord's state, so it never gets out of sync.
- Why do I need to create a Discord application?
- Discord only gives voice control to applications that their owner has set up. KeyRoutines walks you through creating your own one, which takes about five minutes.
