Check if OBS is recording before a routine continues

OBS is recording is a condition that is true while OBS has a recording running. A paused recording still counts, and the reason tells you it's paused.

How it works

  • No settings to fill in: it simply asks OBS whether it is recording.
  • When true it reports how long the recording has run and whether it's paused.
  • If OBS isn't connected the answer is false, with the reason.
  • Inside Wait until it wakes on OBS's recording events, so waiting for a recording to stop costs nothing.

Routines that use it

Don't quit mid-recording

Before Close app closes OBS at the end of the night, check OBS is recording and, if so, ask with Ask Yes or No first.

Recording reminder

When Game started fires and OBS is not recording, Show banner reminds you to hit record.

Wait for the file

Stop the recording with OBS: record / stream / replay, then wait until OBS is no longer recording before moving the file.

Good to know

  • OBS must be reachable through its WebSocket server.

Questions

Does a paused recording count as recording?
Yes. The condition stays true while paused, and its reason says the recording is paused.
How do I start recording only if OBS isn't already recording?
You can use this condition in an If, but the record step already does nothing when recording is running, so a plain start is safe too.
