Switch OBS profiles automatically before you stream

OBS: switch profile changes which OBS profile is loaded, with its own stream and output settings. Handy if you keep one profile for streaming and another for local recording. This step needs KeyRoutines Pro.

KeyRoutines Pro is a one-time $29.99 upgrade for up to 2 PCs.

How it works

  • Name the profile as OBS's Profile menu shows it; a single case-insensitive match works too.
  • If OBS is already on that profile, nothing happens.
  • OBS won't change profile while it streams or records, so the step stops and says so.
  • A name that doesn't exist fails with the profiles OBS has.

Routines that use it

Recording setup

A recording routine opens OBS, waits until it's connected, switches to your Recording profile and starts recording.

Stream setup

Before going live, switch to your Streaming profile, then pick the Starting Soon scene.

Per-game settings

When a particular game starts, load a profile tuned for it.

Good to know

  • Needs KeyRoutines Pro.
  • Can't switch while OBS is streaming or recording.

Questions

Can I switch OBS profile while streaming?
No. OBS itself doesn't allow it, so the step tells you instead of trying. Stop the stream or recording first.
Is a profile the same as a scene collection?
No. A profile holds output and stream settings, while a scene collection holds your scenes and sources. Use OBS: switch scene collection for those.
