Run a routine when your internet connection drops or returns

Internet connected or lost starts a routine when Windows sees your internet access change. Use it to be told about outages or to catch up on things once you're back.

How it works

  • Choose to fire when the internet comes back, when it goes away, or on either.
  • It waits for the network to settle before firing, so a flicker doesn't fire twice.
  • The routine gets what changed, plus the current network and whether a VPN is up.
  • It only listens to Windows while the routine is turned on, with no polling.

Routines that use it

Outage alert

When the internet goes away, Speak text says "Internet is down" so you notice even in a game.

Catch up once back

When the internet comes back, Send webhook posts the message that couldn't go out earlier.

Log your outages

On either change, Add text to file writes the time and what happened to a network log.

Questions

Can I get an alert when my internet goes down on Windows?
Yes. Use Internet connected or lost set to "goes away" and add Show banner or Speak text.
Does it test the connection itself?
No, it follows Windows' own internet status. To check a particular server, use Host reachable.
