How to get notified when your internet connection drops

Use KeyRoutines' Internet connected or lost trigger set to either. An If with Internet available decides which message Show banner gives, Speak text says it out loud, and Add text to file logs the time of each change.

Steps

  1. 1

    Watch the connection

Add Internet connected or lost with On set to either.

  2. 2

    Up or down?

Add an If with Internet available.

  3. 3

    Tell yourself

Show banner "Internet back" in the If branch and "Internet lost" with Speak text in the Else branch.

  4. 4

    Log it

Add Format date and Add text to file with the time and the state, to build a list of outages.

Tips

  • Internet here means Windows' own connectivity check, the same one that shows "No internet" on the taskbar.

Questions

Can it restart my router?
Not by itself. With Pro, an HTTP request step can call a router or smart plug that has a web API.
Does it detect slow internet?
No. It notices when the connection is lost or comes back, not its speed.
