How to get an alert when a window's title changes

Use KeyRoutines' Window title changed trigger for the app, an If with Compare values that checks the new title for words like "Done" or "Complete", and Show banner or Speak text to tell you. It's a simple way to watch renders, exports and uploads.

Steps

  1. 1

    Watch the title

Add the Window title changed trigger and pick the app's window.

  2. 2

    Look for the words

Add an If with Compare values: the window's title contains "Complete" (or matches a pattern).

  3. 3

    Tell yourself

Inside it, add Show banner with the title, and Speak text if you're away from the screen.

  4. 4

    Stop repeats

Add Remember to note that you were told, and check it with Remembered value is, so the same title doesn't alert you twice.

Tips

  • Only works for apps that really put the status in their title bar; check the title while the job runs first.

Questions

Can I do something else instead, like shut down?
Yes. Any step can go in the If, for example Shut down with a countdown you can cancel.
Does it read the screen?
No. It reads the window's title the way Windows reports it; nothing on screen is captured.
