How to mute Discord automatically when a Zoom or Teams call starts

With KeyRoutines Pro, add the Mic or camera in use trigger for your meeting app, started and stopped. Started by trigger picks the branch and the Discord: deafen step deafens you in Discord during the call and undeafens you after; deafening also mutes your Discord microphone.

KeyRoutines Pro is a one-time $29.99 upgrade for up to 2 PCs.

Steps

  1. 1

    Connect Discord

Turn on Discord voice in KeyRoutines' settings so the Discord steps can talk to the Discord app.

  2. 2

    Watch the meeting app

Add Mic or camera in use for the microphone with the app set to Zoom or Teams, once for started and once for stopped.

  3. 3

    Deafen when the call starts

Add an If with Started by trigger set to started, and a Discord: deafen step set to deafen.

  4. 4

    Undeafen after

In the Else branch, add Discord: deafen set to undeafen, and a Show banner step if you want a reminder.

Tips

  • The Discord steps are part of KeyRoutines Pro and work with the Discord desktop app, not the browser version.
  • If you only want Discord's sound gone (not your mic), the free Mute an app step on Discord does that instead.

Questions

Does it leave my voice channel?
No, deafen keeps you in the channel. Use Discord: leave voice channel if you'd rather drop out of the call.
Is Mic or camera in use reliable?
It is marked Experimental: it uses Windows' own record of which app is using the microphone, which most meeting apps report promptly.
