How to press a key in an app every few minutes automatically

Use KeyRoutines' Every … trigger, an If with App is running so nothing happens when the app is closed, and Press keys with the app as the target. Press keys can reach a desktop app that isn't in front, so you can keep working in another window.

Steps

  1. 1

    Pick how often

Add the Every … trigger with 10 minutes.

  2. 2

    Only when it's open

Add an If with App is running for the app.

  3. 3

    Press the keys

Inside, add Press keys with Ctrl+S and the app as the target.

Tips

  • Background keys work with desktop apps. Games are not supported: KeyRoutines never sends keys to a game.
  • Some apps only accept keys while they're in front; then add Focus window before Press keys.

No. It presses the keys you choose in a desktop app on a schedule, such as a save shortcut. It doesn't work in games.

Yes. Press keys, including background delivery, is free. Background text and clicks are Pro.
