How to run a KeyRoutines routine from a Stream Deck key

Install the KeyRoutines Stream Deck plugin, turn on the Local API in KeyRoutines (Settings, Advanced), and allow each routine to run from the local API. Pair the plugin once, then a Run routine key starts the routine and shows whether it's running, done or failed.

Steps

  1. 1

    Turn on the Local API

In KeyRoutines, open Settings, Advanced, and turn on Local API. It's off by default and only listens on your own PC.

  2. 2

    Allow the routine

In the routine's Run from outside panel, set From the local API to Allow or Ask first.

  3. 3

    Pair the plugin

Put a KeyRoutines key on your Stream Deck, choose Pair in its settings, and choose Allow when KeyRoutines shows the same four-digit code.

  4. 4

    Pick the routine

Choose the routine for the Run routine key. Give a routine the Run manually trigger if you only ever start it by hand.

Tips

  • Routines that need you to fill in inputs are greyed out, because a key has nowhere to type them.
  • A Toggle mode key shows whether a Mode is on and switches it.

Questions

Why not just use Stream Deck's own hotkey action?
You can bind a KeyRoutines hotkey to a key, but the plugin shows the routine's live state and doesn't need a spare key combination.
Is the plugin free?
The plugin works with the free version of KeyRoutines; Mode routines themselves need Pro.
