How to switch keyboard layout when you plug in a keyboard

Create a KeyRoutines routine with Device connected and Device disconnected triggers for your keyboard, and an If on Started by trigger. Switch keyboard layout picks the keyboard's layout when it connects and the laptop's layout when it disconnects.

Steps

  1. 1

    Watch the keyboard

Add Device connected and Device disconnected with part of the keyboard's name, such as K380 or the USB receiver's name.

  2. 2

    Branch

Add an If with Started by trigger set to Device connected.

  3. 3

    Switch layouts

In the If branch, add Switch keyboard layout with the keyboard's layout, such as English (United States). In the Else branch, add it with the laptop's layout.

Tips

  • Only layouts already installed in Windows can be chosen; the step lists the ones you have if the name doesn't match.
  • If Windows is set to use a different input method for each app window, the switch applies to the window in front.
