How it works
- Give it a bold title, the button labels and optional text underneath.
- It always uses a Windows notification, so it never opens a window over what you're doing.
- Pick a default button that counts as clicked if nobody answers before the timeout (one minute unless you change it).
- The clicked button is passed on, so a later If or Switch can run different steps for each one.
Routines that use it
Snooze or stop
At bedtime, ask with Sleep now, In 30 minutes and Not tonight, then use Switch to run Sleep, Delay, or nothing.
Where should this go?
When Download finished catches a file, buttons for Work, Personal and Leave it decide where Move or copy file puts it.
Recording choice
When a game starts, offer Record and Replay only, then start the matching output with OBS: record / stream / replay.
Settings
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Title | The notification's first line, in bold. |
| Buttons | Up to three button labels. |
| Message | The text under the title. |
| Default | The button that counts as clicked if nobody answers in time. |
| Timeoutadvanced | How long to wait for a click (default 1 minute). |
Good to know
- At most three buttons.
- If KeyRoutines has no way to ask, for example with its notifications turned off in Windows, the default is used straight away.
Questions
- Can a Windows notification have buttons that run different actions?
- With KeyRoutines, yes. Ask with buttons shows up to three, and you branch on the clicked one with If or Switch.
- What if I miss the notification?
- When the timeout runs out, the default button counts as clicked, so the routine still finishes.
