Play a sound or audio file automatically from a routine

Play sound plays one of Windows' own sounds or a sound file you choose. It's a quick audible cue that a routine finished, started, or needs you.

How it works

  • Pick a Windows sound such as Notification, Reminder, Mail, Alarm, Exclamation, Critical Stop, Asterisk or Default Beep; it plays whatever your Windows sound scheme uses for it.
  • Or choose a .wav, .mp3, .m4a or .wma file.
  • Play it on the default device or a chosen one, like your headset, at a volume from 0 to 1 without changing the device volume.
  • By default the routine moves on as soon as the sound starts; turn on waiting to hold it until the sound ends.
  • It's left out in quiet mode unless the step says otherwise, and a dry run only logs what it would play.

Routines that use it

Download done chime

When Download finished fires, play the Notification sound on your headset.

Timer alarm

A hotkey starts a Delay of 25 minutes, then Play sound rings the Alarm sound.

Custom go-live sting

When the OBS stream starts, play your own .mp3 sting through the headset.

Questions

Can I play a custom sound when a routine finishes?
Yes. Add Play sound as the last step and pick your .wav or .mp3 file, or one of the Windows sounds.
Will it change my volume?
No. The step's own volume only affects that sound; the device volume stays where it is.
