How to show or hide your webcam in OBS with a hotkey
With KeyRoutines Pro, add a Hotkey trigger and OBS: show or hide a source set to the other way round for your webcam source. Play sound gives you a short cue so you know it changed without looking.
KeyRoutines Pro is a one-time $29.99 upgrade for up to 2 PCs.
Steps
- 1
Add a Hotkey trigger
Pick a chord such as Ctrl+Alt+C.
- 2
Flip the webcam
Add OBS: show or hide a source, pick your webcam source and choose the other way round.
- 3
Pick the scene
Leave the scene empty to use whichever scene is live, or pick one.
- 4
Hear it
Add Play sound with a short Windows sound, played on your headset.
Tips
- A source placed twice in a scene is switched everywhere it appears, and a source inside a group is switched within its group.
- Hiding the source doesn't turn the camera off; it only hides it from the stream and recording.
Questions
- Why not use OBS's own hotkey?
- You can. A routine is handy when the same key should also mute your mic or change the scene.
- Do I need Pro?
- Yes. OBS: show or hide a source is a Pro step. Switching scenes is free.
