Show or hide an OBS source like a webcam or overlay

OBS: show or hide a source turns a source in a scene visible or invisible, the same as clicking its eye icon in OBS. This step needs KeyRoutines Pro.

KeyRoutines Pro is a one-time $29.99 upgrade for up to 2 PCs.

How it works

  • Pick the source and choose show, hide, or the other way round.
  • Pick the scene too, or leave it empty to use whichever scene OBS shows when the step runs.
  • A source inside a group is switched within its group, and a source placed twice in the scene is switched everywhere it appears.
  • If it's already in the state you want, nothing is sent.

Routines that use it

Hide the webcam on a call

When Mic or camera in use sees Zoom start using the camera, hide the webcam source in OBS.

Overlay on a key

A hotkey toggles a Be Right Back image in your gameplay scene.

Hide chat while idle

When you've been Idle for a few minutes, hide the chat overlay; show it again when you're Back at the PC.

Questions

Can I hide my webcam in OBS with a hotkey?
Yes. Use OBS: show or hide a source with a Hotkey trigger, pick the webcam and set it to toggle.
Does it work for sources inside groups?
Yes. A source inside a group is switched inside that group, the way OBS does it.
