How to hide your password manager and private windows from your stream
With KeyRoutines Pro, add an image source called Privacy cover over your display capture in OBS. A KeyRoutines routine with App focused triggers for your private apps checks OBS is streaming, and OBS: show or hide a source shows the cover when they come to the front and hides it when you leave them.
KeyRoutines Pro is a one-time $29.99 upgrade for up to 2 PCs.
Steps
- 1
Make the cover in OBS
Add an image or colour source named Privacy cover above your display capture and hide it.
- 2
Watch the private apps
Add App focused for your password manager and mail app, set to fire when they come to the front, and another set to fire when they lose focus.
- 3
Only while live
Add an If with OBS is streaming so nothing changes off stream.
- 4
Show or hide the cover
Inside, an If with Started by trigger picks the branch: OBS: show or hide a source shows the cover on focus and hides it when focus leaves.
Tips
- App focused listens to Windows' own window-in-front signal, so it reacts right away.
- Test it before you rely on it: start a recording, open the app and check the cover appears.
Questions
- Is this a replacement for being careful?
- No. It's a safety net; there's a moment between the app coming to the front and OBS showing the cover.
- Can I switch to a separate scene instead?
- Yes, with the free OBS: switch scene step; Pro is only needed for showing and hiding a single source.
