How to set game and Discord volume automatically when you play

Create a KeyRoutines routine with a Game started trigger, a Delay so the game has played some sound, and two App volume steps: one for the game, one for Discord. Each app keeps its own level, separate from the master volume.

Steps

  1. 1

    Start with the game

Add Game started and pick the game.

  2. 2

    Give it a moment

Add a Delay of about 30 seconds. Windows only has a volume slider for an app once it has played sound.

  3. 3

    Set the game's level

Add App volume for the game's program and set it, for example, to 0.6.

  4. 4

    Set Discord's level

Add App volume for Discord, for example 0.9, so voices stay clear over the game.

Tips

  • App volume works like the per-app sliders in Windows' Volume mixer; your master volume isn't touched.
  • If the game hasn't played sound yet, the step says so; a longer Delay fixes it.

Questions

Can it put the levels back afterwards?
Yes. App volume outputs the previous level, so a Game stopped branch can set it back; with Pro, a Mode does that for you.
Does it change Discord's per-user volume?
No, App volume changes Discord as a whole. KeyRoutines Pro has Discord: user volume for one person.
