How to keep notifications quiet automatically while gaming
Add Game started and Game stopped triggers, with an If on Started by trigger, and a Quiet mode step set to on or off in each branch. KeyRoutines then stays silent while you play. For other apps' notifications, turn on Windows 11's own Do not disturb rule for games (Settings > System > Notifications); KeyRoutines doesn't change Windows' Do not disturb.
Steps
- 1
Watch your games
Add Game started and Game stopped triggers.
- 2
Branch on the trigger
Add an If with Started by trigger set to Game started.
- 3
Quiet on
Add Quiet mode set to on in the If branch: KeyRoutines' banners, sounds and speech stop, and its own scheduled routines wait.
- 4
Quiet off
Add Quiet mode set to off in the Else branch.
- 5
Let Windows quiet the rest
In Windows 11 Settings > System > Notifications, turn on the automatic Do not disturb rule for when you play a game. KeyRoutines leaves that setting alone.
Tips
- Quiet mode can turn itself off after a time you choose, as a safety net.
- Questions from routines are never held back by Quiet mode, so a routine that asks you something still shows it.
Questions
- Does this turn on Windows Do not disturb?
- No. Quiet mode only silences KeyRoutines itself. Windows 11 has its own rule to turn on Do not disturb while you play; turn that on in Settings > System > Notifications.
- Can I use it for meetings too?
- Yes. Use the same step with a Mic or camera in use trigger, or the Meeting Setup template.
