How to stop apps from changing your microphone volume
Use KeyRoutines' Mic or camera in use trigger for the microphone, then a Repeat that runs while the mic is in use: Set volume puts the microphone back at your level, a Delay waits 30 seconds, and an If with Mic or camera in use ends the loop with Stop repeating when the call is over.
Steps
- 1
Start when the mic is used
Add Mic or camera in use for the microphone, set to fire on start. Pick an app such as Zoom, or leave it empty.
- 2
Loop during the call
Add a Repeat with enough rounds for a long call, such as 240.
- 3
Set the level
Inside it, add Set volume for the microphone at your level, such as 0.8.
- 4
Wait and check
Add a Delay of 30 seconds, then an If with Mic or camera in use; in its Else branch, add Stop repeating.
Tips
- It's better to turn off the app's own "automatically adjust microphone" setting when it has one; this routine is for apps that don't.
- Mic or camera in use is Experimental: it relies on information Windows keeps for its privacy indicator.
Questions
- Does it change the level in Discord's settings?
- No. Set volume changes the Windows recording level of your default microphone.
- Is it free?
- Yes. Every block in this routine is free.
