How to open your work apps automatically when the VPN connects

Create a KeyRoutines routine with the VPN connected or disconnected trigger set to connects, filtered by your work VPN's name. Open app starts Outlook and Teams, Open URLs opens your intranet pages, and Show notification says you're connected.

Steps

  1. 1

    Watch the VPN

Add VPN connected or disconnected, set to connects, and type part of the connection's name, such as Work or WireGuard.

  2. 2

    Open your apps

Add Open app for Outlook and Teams, set to leave them alone if they're open.

  3. 3

    Open internal pages

Add Open URLs with your intranet, ticket queue and wiki, in your work browser profile.

  4. 4

    Confirm

Add Show notification with "Work VPN connected".

Tips

  • Add a second routine on disconnects with Close app if you like to end the workday when the VPN goes down.
  • VPNs are recognised by their network adapter, so an unusual VPN app may not be noticed.

Questions

Can it connect the VPN for me?
No. KeyRoutines reacts when the VPN connects; it doesn't sign in to it.
Is it free?
Yes. The VPN trigger, Open app, Open URLs and Show notification are free.
