How to switch dark mode on a schedule on Windows 11
Make a KeyRoutines routine with two At a time triggers, one in the morning and one in the evening, and a Dark or light mode step in each branch of an If on Started by trigger. Choose whether apps, Windows or both switch.
Steps
- 1
Add two times
Add At a time at 07:30 and another at 19:30.
- 2
Branch on the time
Add an If with Started by trigger set to the evening trigger.
- 3
Switch the theme
Add Dark or light mode set to dark in the If branch and light in the Else branch, with For set to both apps and Windows.
- 4
Catch up after sleep
Add the Woke up trigger and a Time and day check, so the theme is right after the PC was asleep at the switch time.
Tips
- Add a Hotkey trigger with Dark or light mode set to the other way round for a manual switch.
Questions
- Can it follow sunset?
- KeyRoutines uses times you choose; it doesn't look up sunset. Pick a time that suits the season.
- Does it change the wallpaper too?
- Add a Set wallpaper step in each branch if you want a dark and a light wallpaper.
