How to end your stream with one hotkey in OBS

Make a KeyRoutines routine with a Hotkey trigger and Ask Yes or No first. If you say yes, OBS: switch scene shows your ending scene, a Delay gives viewers 30 seconds of outro, OBS: record / stream / replay stops the stream, and Close app closes OBS.

Steps

  1. 1

    Add a Hotkey trigger

Pick a chord you won't hit by accident, such as Ctrl+Alt+Shift+E.

  2. 2

    Confirm

Add Ask Yes or No with "End the stream?" and an If on its answer, so the rest only runs on Yes.

  3. 3

    Show the outro

Add OBS: switch scene with your ending scene and a Delay of 30 seconds.

  4. 4

    Stop the stream

Add OBS: record / stream / replay set to stop the stream, and stop the recording too if you record.

  5. 5

    Close up

Add Close app for OBS and Show banner with "Stream ended".

Tips

  • Ask Yes or No defaults to No when nobody answers, so a stray key press never ends the stream.
  • Pairs with the free Stream Start template, which opens OBS and goes live.

Questions

Will closing OBS lose my recording?
Stop the recording with OBS: record / stream / replay before Close app; OBS finishes writing the file when the recording stops.
Is it free?
Yes. Every block in this routine is in the free version.

Blocks this routine uses

Trigger · HotkeysFree

Hotkey

Hotkey starts a routine when you press a keyboard shortcut or mouse button. It's the most common way to run a routine, from a single app launcher key to a whole streaming setup on one combination.

Step · NotificationsFree

Ask Yes or No

Ask Yes or No asks a simple question and waits for an answer. It's the safety catch before steps you don't always want, like closing apps or shutting down.

Step · OBS StudioFree

OBS: switch scene

OBS: switch scene changes the scene OBS shows to viewers. It's free and needs no setup beyond turning on OBS's WebSocket server.

Step · Flow and routinesFree

Delay

Delay pauses the routine for a time you choose before the next step runs. People add it after opening an app, between key presses, or anywhere a program needs a moment to react.

Step · OBS StudioFree

OBS: record / stream / replay

OBS: record / stream / replay controls OBS's outputs from a routine: recording, the live stream, the replay buffer and the virtual camera. Gaming routines often use it to start the replay buffer when a game launches.

Step · AppsFree

Close app

Close app shuts down the programs you pick, or every open app except the ones you want to keep. People put it at the end of a work session, before a game, or anywhere a cluttered taskbar gets in the way.

Step · NotificationsFree

Show banner

Show banner puts a large text message on screen for a set time. Unlike a Windows notification, it still shows when a borderless full-screen app is in front, and it never takes the mouse or keyboard.
