Zip files and folders automatically on Windows 11

Zip files puts several files and folders into a single zip archive. It suits quick backups, sharing a batch of files, or archiving a finished project.

How it works

  • List the files and folders to include and where the zip goes.
  • The location can be a full path or just a name like Backup.zip, which lands next to the first item; .zip is added if you leave it off.
  • You decide what happens when a zip with that name already exists.
  • The new zip is recorded, so Undo file moves can send it to the Recycle Bin.

Routines that use it

Weekly project backup

Every Friday At a time, zip your project folder with the date in its name and move it to a backup drive.

Bundle recent files

Use List files to collect this week's reports, then zip them together ready to send.

Archive game saves

When Game stopped fires, zip the game's save folder so you always have a recent copy.

Questions

How can I back up a folder to a zip automatically?
Put a Zip files step in a routine with a schedule trigger. Name the zip with today's date so each backup is kept separately.
Can I zip more than one folder at once?
Yes. Add every file and folder you want to the list; they all go into the same zip.
