How to zip the files you copied with one hotkey

Build a KeyRoutines routine with a Hotkey trigger, Get clipboard set to copied files, Format date for a dated name, and Zip files to pack them. Show notification with a "Show in folder" button finishes it.

Steps

  1. 1

    Add a Hotkey trigger

Pick a chord such as Ctrl+Alt+Z.

  2. 2

    Read the copied files

Add Get clipboard set to copied files. Copy the files in Explorer with Ctrl+C before pressing the hotkey.

  3. 3

    Name the zip

Add Format date with yyyy-MM-dd HH-mm.

  4. 4

    Zip them

Add Zip files with the copied files and a name like Archive followed by the date; a plain name lands next to the first file.

  5. 5

    Show it

Add Show notification with a button that shows the zip in its folder.

Tips

  • Add an If with Clipboard contains set to files first, so the hotkey does nothing when you copied text by mistake.
  • The new zip is recorded, so Undo file moves can send it to the Recycle Bin.
