How to move Windows and Discord audio to your headset when a game starts
With KeyRoutines Pro, add Game started and Game stopped triggers and an If on Started by trigger. On start, Set default audio device picks the headset for Windows, and Discord: output device and Discord: input device move Discord to the headset too; on stop, the same steps switch back to your speakers and desk mic.
KeyRoutines Pro is a one-time $29.99 upgrade for up to 2 PCs.
Steps
- 1
Add the game triggers
Add Game started and Game stopped, for any game or the ones you play with friends.
- 2
Branch
Add an If with Started by trigger set to Game started.
- 3
Switch Windows
In each branch, add Set default audio device: headset when the game starts, speakers when it stops.
- 4
Switch Discord
Add Discord: output device and Discord: input device in each branch, naming the headset or your desk devices. Use Default to follow Windows again.
Tips
- Discord has no keybind for its devices, so these steps are the only way a routine can move Discord to a specific device.
- If a name matches several devices, the Discord step stops and lists the devices Discord knows about.
Questions
- What setup does Discord need?
- Once, you create a Discord application in Discord's Developer Portal and connect it in KeyRoutines. After that, the Discord desktop app just has to be open.
- Is any of this free?
- Game started, Game stopped and Set default audio device are free; the Discord device steps need KeyRoutines Pro.
