How to remove tracking junk from links when you copy them

Use KeyRoutines' Clipboard changed trigger set to a web link, Get clipboard to read it, Split text at the ? and Get list item to keep the first part, then Set clipboard with the clean link. Compare values can limit it to links that contain utm_.

Steps

  1. 1

    Watch for links

Add Clipboard changed with Content set to a web link.

  2. 2

    Read it

    Add Get clipboard as text.

  3. 3

    Only tracked links

Add an If with Compare values: the text contains utm_ (or another marker you want gone).

  4. 4

    Cut and copy back

Inside it, add Split text at ?, Get list item 1 of the result, then Set clipboard with that text.

Tips

  • Cutting the whole query also removes parts some links need, such as YouTube's ?v=. Use Replace text or Find with a pattern if you want to remove only some parts.
  • The trigger ignores the routine's own Set clipboard by default, so it can't loop.

Questions

Does KeyRoutines store what I copy?
No. Clipboard text is kept out of Run history; it shows as a length, not the text. Apps that mark their clipboard as private, like password managers, never fire the trigger.
Is it free?
Yes.
