KeyRoutines

Streamer.bot alternative: when KeyRoutines fits, and when it doesn't

Streamer.bot is a free Windows app built around live-streaming platforms: chat commands, channel point redemptions, follows and raids triggering actions. KeyRoutines isn't a replacement for that, since it has no Twitch, YouTube or Kick integration in 1.0. It fits the other half of streaming: one hotkey that opens your apps, switches OBS scenes, sets your audio devices, lights and windows, and starts the stream, and it works well next to Streamer.bot.

What's different

  • Streamer.bot connects to streaming platforms and chat; KeyRoutines 1.0 doesn't. For chat commands, alerts from redemptions, raids and follows, Streamer.bot is the better tool.
  • Streamer.bot lets you write C# for anything it doesn't do out of the box. KeyRoutines' escape hatches are PowerShell, command and JavaScript steps in Pro.
  • KeyRoutines covers the desktop around the stream: launching and waiting for apps and games, window layouts across monitors, default audio devices, power plans, Discord voice (Pro) and Elgato lights (Pro).
  • KeyRoutines has a game-safe mode that keeps it from sending input to or reading the screen of anti-cheat-protected games.
  • Streamer.bot is free. KeyRoutines is free, with OBS events, sources and filters, Discord and Elgato in the one-time Pro upgrade.

Moving over

  1. 1

    Keep chat in Streamer.bot

Leave chat commands, redemptions and platform alerts where they are. Use KeyRoutines for the setup around them.

  2. 2

    Build a Stream Start routine

Start from the Stream Start template or a hotkey: open OBS and Discord, wait until they're ready, apply your window layout, switch audio, set the scene and start streaming.

  3. 3

    Add a Stream End routine

With Pro, use the OBS stream stopped trigger to put audio, lights and windows back, or turn a Mode off to restore everything at once.

  4. 4

Put routines on your Stream Deck

Install the free KeyRoutines Stream Deck plugin, turn on the Local API and pair it once, then add Run routine keys.

Questions

Can KeyRoutines replace Streamer.bot?
Not if you rely on chat commands, channel points or platform events. KeyRoutines 1.0 has no Twitch, YouTube or Kick integration. It does replace hotkey and OBS setup actions.
Can I use both?
Yes. They connect to OBS independently. Many setups use KeyRoutines to get the PC ready and Streamer.bot to run the chat.
Does KeyRoutines need the OBS WebSocket?
Yes. It talks to OBS through the WebSocket server built into OBS Studio.
Is KeyRoutines safe to run while I'm gaming on stream?
Game-safe mode turns itself on while an anti-cheat-protected game runs: no keys or clicks into the game and no reading its screen. KeyRoutines sets things up around the game and never plays it.
